"To cultivate and promote Haitian artistic and cultural excellence, community service, and empowerment."
Konbit Mizik Corp. is a NYS 501(c)3 non-profit corporation (EIN # 45-2704968) based in Brooklyn, NY and Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Originally conceived as a project in the wake of the 2010 earthquake to support Haiti's youth, producer & musician Ian Evans teamed up with filmmaker Nick Cannell to record, film, and promote young music artists, and channel back to them the revenues from downloads and streams of their music.
In short order, Konbit Mizik's name and recognition spread throughout the streets of Haiti. In 2011, we incorporated and expanded the mission of Konbit Mizik to truly leverage the power of music as a vehicle for social transformation. In August 2013, we received tax-exempt status from the IRS.
Over the years, we stayed true to our mission of providing free production, video, and career management services to local, underground musical artists in Haiti, but with so many pressing needs in the country, we felt compelled to also engage youth in grassroots organizing, community service, health education and disaster relief.
Fast forward to 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit at the same time we saw a rise in political instability and violence in Haiti, we were forced to temporarily suspend programming in-country. But the hiatus presented us an important opportunity to reassess our mission, programs, and capacity and to develop our strategic plan for the future.
OUR TRANSPARENCY & ACCOUNTABILITY
Konbit Mizik requires that over 75% of our budget goes directly to program services. All funds expended are reviewed, categorized, and authorized by the multilingual staff of WND Accounting, Inc. to assure complete transparency to our donors.
